Is There Hope For Your Bad Putting?

Watching a golfer attempt a putt will make an observer think that it is the simplest stroke in golf, and in a way it is.
Let’s face it, the putt is the only golf shot that it is really possible to execute flawlessly without any tuition at all. In fact, it is the first shot that kids learn in golf. Even then, some showed signs of their putting skill. Often, kids who showed great promise with their putting continued playing the game in their adult life.
What then is the problem? How can this easiest of golf shots become the absolute bane of an adult golfer’s life? It really is one of life’s many mysteries. When asked, even experts will just raise their eyebrows and give a noncommittal answer. The answer that might be nearest to the truth is that putting is 90% mental.
One company once tried to produce a machine that will putt with accuracy. They carried out tests in optimum putting conditions and were gob-smacked to discover that their pride and joy couldn’t hole every putt. They took that machine apart and tweaked every element of it until they were certain that it was in perfect working order. And, guess what? It still failed to hole some putts. The only thing that can be said is that there are things that are inexplicable in the putting game of golf.
What is clear is that the average golfer will just have to resign to the fact that they cannot ever perfect putting. If a machine in perfect working under operating under perfect putting conditions fails to hole every golf putt, then a human being with all his or her imperfections never is.
Golfers should not be frustrated if they miss what look like an easy shot and just play their normal game. It happens to even top professional golfers. Remember what is said earlier that putting is 90% mental and you will just be putting yourself in a worse spot if you cannot control your emotions and let your frustration get the better of you.
It does not mean however that you should not make any effort to improve your putting. Thinking positive would be a good and necessary first step, or maybe you are not doing it correctly so get some putting tools and trainers to improve your technique, and lastly experiment with a new putter. Take your lead from the professionals. There are professional players who improved their putting tremendously after trying several variations of putters like Bernhard Langer who shifted to the broom handle putter, so you too can try putters with a different grip or length.
