The carriers of the Raiders jackets met with the Green Bay Packers on January 14, 1968 for the Super Bowl II in Miami at the Orange Bowl. The Oakland Raiders by 33-14 was defeated by the Green Bay Packers.
The Oakland Raiders successfully defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the Super Bowl XI played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on January 9, 1977. In a score of 32-14, the Oakland Raiders defeated the Minnesota Vikings.
During the Super Bowl XL held in Louisiana Superdome, the Philadelphia Eagles was capped off by the Raiders by 27-10 in 1980.
In Super Bowl XVIII, Washington Redskins was beaten by the Oakland Raiders by score of 38-9, at the end of the 1983 season.
Fred Biletnikoff is one of the players of Oakland Raiders who in the Super Bowl XI became the Most Valuable Player . He had achieved 4 catches for 79 yards. Fred was a second round AFL draft pick in 1965 by the Raiders out of Florida State University. He played 1965-1978 with the Raiders, was a 6-time Pro Bowl selection and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988.
Likewise in the Super Bowl XV, Jim Plunkett won Most Valuable Player for going 13 for 21, 261 yards and three TDs. He was also named as the National Footbal League Comeback Player of the Year in 1980. He was a Heisman Trophy winner out of Stanford and the first overall pick of the 1971 National Football League Draft.
After the AFL-NFL merger, the Oakland Raiders wore their NFL jackets proudly under the direction of head coach John Madden made it to the AFC Championship game for six times in the nine seasons of 1970-1978, winning only once when they went on to Super Bowl XI after the 1976 season. As head coach of the Oakland Raiders, John Madden did not have a losing season. He was inducted in 2006 into the Pro Football Hall of Fame .
Jon Gruden, not known to those who like to wear their jackets on, is a former head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 1998-2001, who have defeated the raiders in the Super Bowl XXXVII. His first year with the Buccaneers and just one season after leaving the Raiders in 2002, he led the Bucanneers to the Super Bowl where they had to face his former Raider team. The Buccaneers in a score of 48-21 defeated the Oakland Raiders by 48-21.
