The San Diego Chargers Fearsome Foursome.

Before the San Diego Chargers began its existence, it was formerly known as the Los Angeles Chargers in 1960. Before moving to San Diego in 1961, the Chargers only spent one season in Los Angeles.

The San Diego Chargers got their NFL jackets by defeating the Buffalo Bills by 20-14 advancing them to the AFC Championship Game where they lost to the Oakland Raiders by 34-27, in 1980 AFC divisional playoff game.

The San Diego Chargers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, under head coach Bobby Ross, in the 1994 AFC Championship. In Super Bowl XXIX, by a score of 49-26 the Chargers lost against the San Francisco 49ers.

The San Diego Chargers follow-up year in 1995 did not bring the same success of the previous season, but the team still managed to get into the playoffs with a five-game winning streak to end the season at 97. However, in the first round, the San Diego Chargers were eliminated by the Indianapolis Colts in a 3520 defeat.

The season of 1978 was marked Holy Roller game, likewise the sports jackets wearing Charger fans call it the Immaculate Deception. On September 10, 1978 at Jack Murphy Stadium, the Oakland Raiders executed a game-winning play against the San Diego Chargers. Many Charger fans believed what should have been called an incomplete pass was seen as a fumble and the rest of the play involved batting of the ball forward towards the end zone where the Oakland Raiders ultimately recovered it for a touchdown. In the last two minutes of a half or game the only offensive player allowed to advance a fumbled ball is the player who originally fumbled; as a result, the National Football League rules were changed . If any other offensive player recovers the fumble and advances the ball, after the play the line of scrimmage is the spot of the original fumble.

Not proverbial to many, it was Sid Gillman who coached the San Diego Chargers all the way through the AFL life of the 1960s, omit for the finish five games of the 1969 season. In 1971, Gillman then coached the San Diego Chargers for the first ten games. He finished his career with a win/loss record of 87-57-6. Gillman who was considered the foremost authority on the forward passing offense of his era, is a Hall of Famer.

One of the known players of the San Diego Chargers is Monte Coleman for not wearing one of the San Diego Chargers jackets in any of their matches.

The longtime rivals of the San Diego Chargers are the Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Seattle Seahawks.

Fearsome Foursome was the term pioneered by the San Diego Chargers. The Los Angeles Rams later on appropriated the phrase.
